About conflict free Herkimer Diamonds
Herkimer Diamonds are very clear & pure double-terminated quartz crystals that are found only in upstate New York. These gemstones derive their name as they are found in Herkimer county and have the raw appearance of diamond.
Herkimer diamonds are a wonderful, inexpensive, naturally occurring conflict free alternative to traditional diamonds. They are truly hard to distinguish from a diamond as they are very hard, durable, and can therefore scratch steel and glass.
Herkimer diamonds will give you and yours a lifetime of enjoyment!
As is the case for any crystal found in the Earth a coincidence of appropriate conditions are responsible for the growth of Herkimer Diamonds. The environment must provide a crucible of some sort for the crystals to form in. The elements that are needed for the crystal’s formation must be present and in a state known as free dissociation. .
Conditions must then occur which allow these elements to come back together in a regular geometric pattern that is dictated by the electrostatic forces at the atomic level. It is these forces that ultimately shape the beautiful geometry of Herkimer Diamonds.
The host rock for Herkimer Diamonds is the Cambrian-age, Little Falls Dolostone. The Little Falls Dolostone was deposited about 500 million years ago and the Herkimer Diamonds formed in cavities within the dolostone. These cavities are frequently lined with drusy quartz crystals and often are coated with a tarry hydrocarbon.
Aquamarine is a member of the beryl family and ranges in color from an almost colorless pale blue to blue-green or teal. The most prized color is a deep-blue aqua color. It is 7.5-8 on the Mohs scale of hardness and gets its name from Latin words meaning water and sea.
Aquamarine and emerald belong to the same family however they are surprisingly different. Aquamarine and emerald are both beryllium aluminum silicates. While emerald is colored by trace amounts of chromium (and vanadium) aquamarine color is the result of iron impurities within colorless beryl crystal.
Metaphysical qualities of Aquamarine
Aquamarine is a “Stone of Courage and Protection”. Used often with the Throat Chakra, Aquamarine can be used to promote verbal self-expression. It is often used to enhance spiritual communication and clear communication blocks. Aquamarine is also used to align all of the chakras and enhance the aura. The metaphysical properties of Aquamarine make it an excellent stone for the spiritual initiate.
